When material enters the hammer mill, it is immediately subjected to the impact of rapidly rotating hammers, initiating primary crushing. The fragmented material gains kinetic energy from the hammers and is propelled against the machine’s internal baffles and grate bars.

Particles smaller than the grate bar gaps are discharged immediately, while larger pieces remain in the crushing chamber.
